Get some great tips on how to celebrate the first day of spring this year when travelling, studying, interning or working in Argentina. The first day of spring, the 21st September, in Argentina coincides with “Student Day” and it is pretty clear why.
As the flowers start to bloom, the sun starts to beam and the faces start to smile, spring in Argentina is (for me) the most beautiful, inspiring and magical of the four seasons. Students come to life, partying hits a real high and everyone begins to realize that they have their entire lives ahead of them to explore.
When visiting, studying, working or volunteering in Argentina in September, the 21st of the month is a date to look forward to and one not to let pass by lightly. Shed your caterpillar skin and become the butterfly you have been longing to be all winter.
There’s no better day than the first day of spring to be associated with students celebrations, of which there are plenty to choose from all over this country this year. In today’s post, we focus on the Buenos Aires capital and surrounding areas.
PARTIES
Buenos Aires is going to be a great place, as always, to see the night through from the 21st to the 22nd this year. One of the best options set to storm the first day of spring party calendar is going to be held at Palacio Alsina (Alfonso Alsina 940, Monserrat).
Tickets for the party organized by Palacio Alsina and Los 40 Principales ( 4334-0097) are already on sale via MultiTicket ( 5353-6900) and Mercado Libre. Ticket prices are 60 pesos (for the guys) and 30 pesos (for the girls).
If you want to see the Argentine Springtime of 2012 in with music, dancing and lots of fernet and coke (a popular Argentine spirit drink), Palacio Alsina has everything on offer that you are hoping for.
LIVE MUSIC EVENTS
For unbeatable live music programs, take the opportunity to travel to either Rosario or La Plata where the line-ups look to promise a first day of spring that you’ll never forget.
First Day of Spring Itinerary in La Plata includes:
Some of the best activities are going to center around Plaza Moreno, in front of the Palacio Municipal, where a number of Platense (a term used to describe people from the Buenos Aires province) bands will be providing a whole day of live music entertainment.
You might also want to check out three rock bands, “33 de mano”, “VosqueDagua” y “La Cumparsita Rock,” who are set to play at the Paseo del Bosque from 1pm. Another option would be to head over to the Plaza Malvinas where a show entirely dedicated to the awesome sounds of DJs Paquito Salazar, Sintex Bortexx, Rodrigo Valdovinos, Nadin Lisa and Luis Zerillo has been scheduled to start at 3pm.
“La música que escuchan todos” is a festival which has been organized in La Plata for the first day of spring this year. From 3pm, in the Espacio Benoit del Parque Saavedra, a number of local bands, including Las Culebras, De la Tierrita, Javier Maldonado, Chico Ninguno, Pájaros and DJ Pega have been given center stage so that they can delight the masses.
First Day of Spring Itinerary in Rosario includes:
The fun kicks off in Rosario from 10am. The early bird catches the party worm, as they say!
Between the Centro de Expresiones Contemporáneas and el Galpón 11, a stage will be set up to celebrate and show off the follow masters of Argentine Folklore:
- Indios de Ahora
- Mulas de Nadie
- Perro E Sulky
- La Semilla
- Rally Barrionuevo
When visiting Argentina, it is a great idea to get to know a little of Argentine Folklore at least. There’s lots of history to be found behind the delivery of this musical genre and the dancing that accompanies it is magical to watch.
Rock lovers need to head to the Espacio Verde in front of the Galpón 13. Contributing rock artists will include:
- Los Drugos
- Sur Du Monde
- Alucinaria
- Septiembre
- El Caño
- Sucesores de la Bestia
- Cielo Razzo
EXTRA ACTIVITIES IN THE SUN IN ROSARIO
The organizers behind the first day of spring activities in Rosario have also arranged for ramps to be erected for skating lovers close to the Galpón 11. Outdoor activities and basking in the sunshine is most definitely on the springtime to-do list in Rosario.
At the Espacio Verde next to the river and in between the CEC and the Galpón 11, other physical, outdoor activities will be available for all to enjoy too. If you love to cycle, there will be lots for you to get involved in. If you love arts and craft fairs, you will be highly entertained.
The School of Urban Arts in Rosario is also planning an entire day of events devoted to the practice of circus activities, under the title of Gala de Circo. Rosario has it all to offer the interested visitor on the 21st September in celebration of the arrival of spring this year.
HEAT
The weather is going a little crazy in Argentina this year, particularly in the Buenos Aires province. It is more than likely that the 21st September 2012 will be hotter than usual and with a higher chance of rain.
Temperatures at the beginning of the month are already reaching 21/22 degrees and if they keep on rising at a similar rate, we will definitely be in for a HOT first day of spring.
If the heat brings out the best in you and inspires you to live life to the full, the first day of spring celebrations in Argentina this year look to be the exact kind of celebrations you have been waiting for as we move into the second half of the year.
Sunshine, laughter and the beginning of all things new awaits us. Let’s step into springtime together!
